Preliminary Information

As required by Government Code §54957.5 (b)(2), the Moreno Valley Unified School District's Board Agendas are posted at the Romelio Ruiz Community Education Center - 25634 Alessandro Boulevard, Moreno Valley, California, and the Moreno Valley Public Library - 25480 Alessandro Boulevard, Moreno Valley, California.

THESE PROCEEDINGS ARE BEING AUDIO/VIDEO TAPED PURSUANT TO GOVERNMENT CODE §54953.5 AND REBROADCAST ON CHANNEL 16.

The Board of Education will meet in Closed Session to discuss matters of student discipline, employee contract matters, and personnel matters.

In order to help ensure participation in the meeting by disabled individuals, the Superintendent or designee shall provide appropriate disability related accommodations or modifications upon request in writing, in accordance with the American Disabilities Act. (Government Codes §54953.2, §54954.1 and MVUSD Board Bylaw 9320)

The Board of Education encourages public comments.  During this section, staff may briefly respond to statements or questions or may ask questions for clarification.  The Board may refer to staff or other resources for factual information, direct staff to report back at a subsequent meeting, and/or direct staff to place the topic on a future agenda. If someone wants to lodge a complaint against an employee, the appropriate form may be obtained at any school or the Community Education Center.  Individuals may speak for a total of three-minutes on one non-agenda item at one Board meeting, regardless of the number of non-agenda items to be addressed.  All public comments on the same topic will be limited to twenty-one minutes.

The Superintendent's Cabinet and Board of Education are interested in having a Leadership Building Capacity Plan that trains teachers and administrators for greater leadership roles. Staff will share the current programs that exist and future plans that will increase promotions from within.

It is recommended that the Board of Education adopt Resolution No. 2010-11-67 to consider the recommendation of staff to deny the petition of Taylion Virtual Academy of Moreno Valley for reasons outlined in the resolution and Findings of Fact.  However, should the Board of Education decide to adopt Resolution No. 2010-11-68 to approve the Taylion Virtual Academy of Moreno Valley, the Board motion must specify the term of the charter - no less than one year and no more than five years.

Head Start Board Summary of Self-Assessment

Per our federal funding for the Head Start Program, the District is required to conduct an annual self-review.  Upon the district's completion of the self-review, Riverside County Office of Education conducted a validation visit.  As a result of the visit, the District was found out of compliance in several areas.  Staff will present the review findings and all corrective actions to be taken to mitigate the non-compliant areas.
